Chanel Nestor

The NC State University CRD team is excited to welcome Chanel Nestor as the Project Coordinator for the CREATE BRIDGES program, a new strategic planning initiative just launched in the Mountain West Region (Jackson, Swain, Macon, Graham, and the Qualla Boundary).

Chanel states that “Regional capacity building is truly a passion of mine and I am so overjoyed to be able to support our state and to contribute to the wealth of knowledge here at N.C. Cooperative Extension.”  In her role as Project Coordinator for the CREATE BRIDGES project, Chanel hopes to be a resource to the CREATE businesses (retail, accommodation, tourism, and entertainment) in the Mountain West Region.

Chanel has a passion for Southern history, arts, and culture and is a documentarian at heart. She is based in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina and enjoys serving as a resource bank for individuals, organizations, municipalities, and regions hoping to build their capacity, engage with stakeholders, and outreach with their community. In addition to her duties as the Project Coordinator for the CREATE BRIDGES program, Chanel serves as a Lecturer of Rural Sociology at N.C. A&T State University and brings experience in Homeownership Policy, Poverty Alleviation, Food System Planning, and Rural Community and Economic Development to this position.

Chanel is from Winston-Salem and has lived in both rural and urban spaces within the Piedmont Triad. She is the mother of a handsome three year old son by the name of Nathanael. She is an avid road-tripper and has completed three cross country trips across America (her favorite scenic state is Montana). She enjoys traveling with her son, and they partake in photography together. At 3 years old, he already owns 2 cameras and prefers to be behind the camera instead of in front of it.
