5 children standing with a large orange blanket in front of them. What is your passion? What are the hobbies or activities you enjoy doing in your spare time? Now, how can you use that passion to impact and serve others? The act of serving is a highly significant part of the 4-H clover. In fact, one of the H’s in 4-H stands for Hands where 4-H members pledge their hands to larger service. Those in 4-H are actually four times more likely to give back to their communities. If one of your passions involves sewing, maybe you could make pillows for a local homeless shelter. There is a very simple activity submitted by Tennessee 4-H member on the 4-H website that teaches how to make a pillow using kitchen handtowels. One of your passions may involve crafts and the arts, so you could take that and make handmade cards to give to residents in nursing homes.

Maybe your passion involves gardening and being out in nature. If so, you could start a community garden in your neighborhood or teach others about starting their own garden. Other opportunities to serve the local community and share your passion could involve projects geared towards environmental sustainability or related to providing food and other donations to those in need. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said-“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”  Today, I encourage you to share your passion with your community, country, and world. Your enthusiasm for a favorite project may spark a passion in someone else.
