How to deactivate Pitney Bowes postage meter

The Meter Return Process will be done in one of the following ways:

Postal Advocates will reach out to the vendors (Pitney, Franco, and Neopost) to request the removal of the unit.

All Extension offices that have meters funded through NCSU, through Pitney NOT under contract, Pitney has been notified and funds should be removed from your meter on or before June 30, 2017. Boxes should be arriving soon for the return of meter.

The  Extension offices with meters under contract with the County Government and funded through NCSU with a contract beyond September 30, 2017 please read information below and wait to hear from Postal Advocates on what to do next.

Based on the type of equipment in your office and the vendor:

Postal Advocates will inform each County Office that one of the following will take place:

The Vendor will send a box to County Extension Office with return instructions.

OR

The Vendor will come to your County Extension Office to pick up larger units.

The remaining postage will be transferred from the meter to the main NCSU Master Commercial Mail postage project/phase prior to sending back the device. This is a simple step that is included in the pickup instructions or the vendor will do this for you if they pick up the unit.

If your postage meter has a contract beyond September 30, 2017 and

  • Is funded by NCSU, under contract with Pitney Bowes through your county government: Stamps.com will not charge the Extension office the monthly service fee to use Stamps.com until the lease/contract has expired on the meter from Pitney Bowes. Your County Government can choose to relocate the meter to another  county location. The Postal Advocate will look at the terms of each of these situations one by one.
  • Is funded by NCSU, under contract through Franco Postilia or Neopost: Stamps.com will not charge the Extension office the monthly service fee to use Stamps.com until the lease/contract has expired on the meter. The Postal Advocate will look at the terms of each of these situations one by one.
  • Is leased or under contract and funded by your county government: The County government can choose to keep the meter and transfer it to another county government location. The Postal Advocate will also look at the terms of each of these situations one by one.
